Great
Day Rides
July, 2007
The GREAT
WEATHER is here and we all want to ride so how about I
list one for you to try next weekend. We’ll start from
the Danbury area, just because we have Marcus Dairy as a
jump off or meeting place.
As always,
check your fuel, oil and tires before you leave on any
extended rides, wear your helmet and remember to bring
some “rain gear”. (An inside joke for those who read my
June column)
Well here
we go:
From I-84
E or W, take the exit #7 ramp. That puts you onto
Rte.7N, follow 7 North until you get to Rte.202 (which
is the end of the highway for right now). Make a right
onto Rte.202E and keep going until 7 and 202 split in
New Milford. At Southworth Chrysler make the right and
go over the bridge to follow 202. Track 202 for a short
distance through the town of New Milford and you will
begin a great country ride with no stop signs and very
few traffic lights.
You will
have a beautiful ride on Rte.202 all the way through
Torrington to Route 8. Go under Rte.8 and make the left
onto the ramp. Rte 8N will end (about eight miles down)
at Route 44. At the end of the ramp make the right onto
44 west. A few miles down on 44 you can stop for
breakfast or brunch at The Black Bear Bakery and Deli,
on the left. (Good food and biker friendly) After a good
meal continue on 44W for about ½ mile and make a left
onto Rte.7S and head into Kent, CT. Kent is a biker
friendly, country town with some great gift and antique
shops and some good places to eat, Caralees, on
the left, is one of them with a good lunch menu and good
service. The town is usually lined with motorcycles so
back your ride up to the curb and enjoy. The ride down
Rte.7S from Kent, is scenic and usually cool, along the
river, with some straight a ways and some really great
twists. Continue on 7S through New Milford and after you
pass Bennett Chevrolet, on the left, make the next right
onto North Mountain Road which becomes Candlewood Lake
Road. If you’re thirsty, stop in at Down the Hatch,
a waterfront and pub on the right side. This is a biker
friendly place with excellent food and great prices. You
can then follow Candlewood Lake Road South back into
Rte. 7S which will put you onto Route 84 East toward
Hartford or West into New York.
I hope you
have a great ride no matter which route you take!
See you
in the saddle.
